Hate Crimes on the Rise?

In a recent column at the Manila Standard, Murders of Gay Men and the Transgendered are now on the rise. Is hate crime becoming a trend in this country?

Please read this article by Elizabeth Angsioco:

In July 2009, in Davao City, a gay photo studio owner was murdered. His head was repeatedly hit with a blunt object and the body was found inside a drum filled with water.

In November of the same year in Antique, Leonides Honejar, 33 years old, justified shooting his lesbian neighbor by saying that he was completely repulsed at the THOUGHT of the latter kissing his daughter. The accused is at large and being hunted by authorities.

In September 2010, in Camarines Sur, a medical doctor thought to be gay was found dead in a rice field. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) concluded that the doctor was doused with gasoline and burned while still alive because of the soot found in the body’s esophagus.

In October 2010, also in Camarines Sur, an unidentified body of a gay man aged between 40-45 was also discovered in a rice field. His thighs and penis were severed from his body. The police suspected that the manner of killing revealed severe hatred against the victim.

In December 2010, two gay college students were allegedly chased by a group of men, held against their will in a nearby house and killed. One of them was still able to send his mother a text message before dying. Days after, their bodies were found and one was almost completely devoured by stray dogs. This happened in Occidental Mindoro.

In January of this year in Currimao, Ilocos Norte, the body of gay Judge Fredelito Pingao was discovered lying in a pool of his own blood. His neck was slashed and the body bore multiple stab wounds.

Unang Tikim

Allen Stevens
Three great reasons why one should not miss the premiere of “Kape Barako” on Monday, Jun 27 (8pm) at the UP Film Institute:

1.       To see the “Barako” hunks in person

2.       The UP Film Institute is not  sanctioned by the Censors ( I spoke to both representatives of UP and MTRCB)

3.       The regular screening of Barako is still two months from now.

So, it’s best not to miss the “Unang Tikim” of Kape Barako! See you all there. Tickets at Php200 available at the gate. First come, first served.

X Rated Miko

The poster of our film "Kape Barako" was X Rated a while ago by the MTRCB because of this "very suggestive" pose of newcomer, Miko Pasamonte in the material.

Oh did someone tell me it's the year 2011? I though we were still in the 18th century.

With the censorship that we have, I really hope you can catch the "UP Premiere" of this film on June 27 (Monday), 8pm at the UP Film Institute.  For ticket reservations, pls contact Kiko at 0917-9119414

The Test

Six Filipino are diagnosed to be HIV positive everyday. One reader shares his experience in getting himself tested at San Lazaro hospital:

At nakuha ko resulta after 1 week. Non reactive ang result ko.

Waiting for Love and "Huling Halik"

Hi Lex,

I got to watch the trailer of "Huling Halik" and to tell you honestly, I fell in love with it. The selected scences, the cinematography, to the acting of your 2 lead stars, even the background song, and of course, the story itself...

What I really love about your film is that it is a love story two men. I'm gay and already 28 years old but to tell you honestly again, I have not made any serious relationship yet. I had several love affairs, but it was one sided, with me loving so much and not getting any love in return. I want to be loved and be in a relationship as well, But going back to the movie, I really would love to see it.

I do hope you will show the movie soon and please let me know when. Thank you for reading and best of luck to all your endeavors with Lexuality Entertainment. Continue producing gay films with substance and tells the aspirations and even the struggles of gay people like me.

Regards,

Don Alejandro

Thanks Don,

"Huling Halik" will be shown after "Kape Barako". And there is no definite date yet for both movies. Please visit the "Huling Halik" facebook page and click "like" to receive updates on the film.

"Huling Halik" is written and directed by promising newcomer Zig Dulay. And it has always been my passion to make stories and movies that will touch the lives of Filipino gay men. And I'm happy that even with the trailer, it has already made an impact on you.

With regards to your concern on your desire to be in a relationship. I only have a simple formula.

Be positive. Be beautiful. And love will find your way.

On Smelly Vaginas and Being Gay

An anonymous reader posts this comment on why he thinks it is better for him to be gay than straight. And I find this very amusing:

No More Sexy Marco?

I recently received an email from one of my most admired bold actors in the gay film scene, Marco Morales and he told me that he is no longer doing bold films as he wants to shy away from his sexy image.

It was both a pleasant surprise and a bit of disappointment for me. It was disappointing because not many "hubaderos" could deliver his level of craftsmanship as an actor. But it was also a pleasant surprise because I know very well that Marco deserves to explore other facets in his career. The guy is intelligent and could speak very well.

Now, I'm wondering, is our film "Laruang Lalake" his last sexy role? Possibly.

Marco is a gem in local gay adult cinema. And I hope he soars to new heights with his new career direction.
