Sanctuario's Back

Robinsons Galleria decided to bring back the summer homoerotic film "Santuaryo" because the "straight romantic" film "Romeo and Juliet" didn't do well at the box office so they had to play a more "profitable" film. It's saddening to know that the general Filipino moviegoers don't really care about "straight" indies. They prefer Hollywood production values over the brazen and experimental narratives from local indies.

It's a good thing that we gay men are loyal patrons to movies that are made for us. Whether these films are good or bad, we always have the money to spare to pay for cinema tickets. And because of this, despite of our small number, we are able to sustain this tiny industry that we all enjoy.

Mabuhay ang baklang moviegoers! And in behalf of all filmmakers, thank you for patronizing these movies as we work very hard to come up with a decent production despite of the very little budget that we can afford to gamble on.

Exactly! Aists...here I go again. But precisely, just what you said yourself, Lex. Despite of the many odds against the production of the so called pink films, there is still the steady stream of both films for cinemas and direct to videos being done because the community patronizes it.

So does it not make a justifiable point that the supplier side (producers, directors, writers, actors) should also show an effort to make better quality films, stories, acting, and everything else that runs parallel to this unique industry.

Just to make it clear, I am not sour graping. I am a patron and an advocate of pink films. I am just echoing the sentiments of many from the community.
