Pervert on the Set

New Actor, Ace Ricafort in Joselito Altarejos' new film

We just finished shooting the latest work of filmmaker Joselito Altarejos. This film with a working title of "Ang Laro ni Juan" is about the life of Jason, a live sex show performer and is loosley based on the raid that was launched against the former exclusive male bar, "Sanctum" in Cubao.

And here's the news. Actors were sexually harassed on the set! yes. you read it right. the actors experienced harassment not from the filmmaker, not from me (a co-witer in the film) or the producer but from one of the bit players we had in the film.

One of the highlights of the film was a live sex show. And I invited several of my gay friends to act as the audience. One of my college classmates brought along with him a former office mate who was introduced to me as a fan of our films. So I gladly accepted him on the set.

This guy, named "Anthony", a young looking and lanky guy, you'll probably see him on the film, according to some of the actors has started touching their nipples and crotches when we were shooting the raid scene. In this scene, all the bit players and the actors were all forced to board a jeepney as they were all apprehended by the NBI. Because, the jeep was so crowded, Anthony's hands comveniently found his way on the private parts of the actors.

According to another report from one of the actors, he saw Anthony sneak inside the dressing room when all the actors were all naked preparing for the live sex scene. He was reported to be masturbating in one corner.

And the climax of his perversion came when during the shoot of one scene, he grasped the naked butt of one of the actors in the film. The actor violently reacted and was about to hit him on the face but he was pacified by the other actors.

The pervert disappeared after the scene.

Live Show Tonight

Tonight, we are shooting the "torohan" (live sex show) scene of Joselito Altarejos' new film "Ang Laro ni Juan". We rehearsed the scene last night and the four actors gamely bared everything for their performance. But the question is, will they be able to do it in front of several gay men and get it hard on cue?

Ill be posting more on this shoot in the next few days.

Sanctum: A Boy's Bar

Hi Lex,

I'm just curious. In the credits of Little Boy Big Boy, I saw "Sanctum" as one of the people/orgs that the producers of the movie would like to thank. Do you have any idea what this is?

Vince

----------------------------------

Hi Vince,

I'm glad you asked about "Sanctum". It was me who's personally thanking the former bar "Sanctum".

If you recall the orgy scene in the film, that scene was inspired by a regular event that happens in Sanctum, an exclusive male bar in Cubao.

Now, the sad thing is, Sanctum has been raided and ordered closed by the NBI courtesy of GMA's "Imbestigador". The kind owner, Dennis and his assitant King is still at the city jail.

Sanctum was born out of a private orgy group called "Manjobs". The group was quite successul that they decided to stop renting hotel rooms and instead open their own bar exclusive to adult gay males in Cubao.

The next movie of Joselito Altarejos "Ang Laro ni Juan" (formerly titled: Sabong), which I co-wrote is inspired by the raid that was launched against Sanctum. Acording to my research of actual gay victims, they experienced harassment and extorsion from government operatives.

In a few days, we are about to start shooting "Ang Laro ni Juan".

Thanks for reading Lexuality.

More "Sex Between Men"

According to the Department of Health (Philippines), the the MSM (Men Who Have Sex with Men) population is now a significant contributor to the HIV-AIDS epidemic in the country.

Dr. Eric Tayag, director of the DOH’s National Epidemiology Center, said they observed an increase of MSM among people infected with HIV. “MSM is becoming a sexual norm. This is contributing to the increase of HIV/AIDS and this is not merely about gays. This is about men who have sex with men,” he said in a health forum organized by the Philippine College of Physicians.

The DOH had registered 432 HIV/AIDS cases from January to July 2009. Seventy of the cases were recorded in July with “bisexual contact as the most predominant type of sexual transmission.”

Tayag said that MSM used to be “hidden” and was known to circulate in clandestine places like rundown movie houses.

Hunk's Baptism?

Hi Lex,

John Ver Roxas

---------------------------------

Hi John Ver,

Thanks for dropping a message. I was not a part of the selection process of the Men of Provoq. The selection was headed by filmmaker Monti Parungao who created the group for Viva as replacement for Viva Hot Men a few years back.

What I know is they all underwent auditions. To my personal knowledge, Mr. Parungao does not sleep with his actors. I have worked with him in several projects (Cruise, Hubad) and he has treated our actors with respect (based on what I have seen and experienced). Now, has any of the hunks slept with the other production staff? my lips are sealed on that matter.

The only naked images of Harry Laurel that I have are those from the film "Ang Lalake sa Parola". We never saved photos of his auditions and workshops.

Thanks for visiting Lexuality.

Sexy Gay Men

Here are some interesting photos from the pageant "Mr. Gay World". I stole these images from the facebook account of one of the Mr. Gay Philippine organizers, Dennis Sebastian.

Thanks, Dennis!

Hot Kambyo

I got an email from Victor Hoff, an American writer on gay culture:

Hi Lex,

I just saw “Kambyo” and wanted to let you know how incredibly touching I found it. Okay, touching and really hot. Is Gabz del Rosario gay?? Or Johnron TaƱada???

This is your most mature work to date. And Joselito Altarejos shows a confidence in his direction I haven’t seen before.

Outstanding. I’ll blog about it later tonight.

Victor Hoff

---------------------------

Hi Victor,

Thanks for watching Kambyo. Your view on the film is quite refreshing as it is our most lambasted film ever.

Shooting kambyo was quite memorable for me because I had a great time with the actors and staff as we were all on a road trip. As far as I can remember, Gabz del Rosarion is straight as an arrow. He loves his girlfriend so much. And as he claimed, he never accepts "special bookings" from gay men. He is proud of his management degree from the Far Easter University and that for him sets him apart from other "sexy actors" who will do everything for a "fee"

Johnron Tanada on the other hand, as far as he claims, is also straight. But he is open in being "friends" with other gay men. In fact, in the blog rddantes.com, it was said that Johnron is now in an openly gay relationship with a gay man in Macau. Whether, this statement was true or not, I could not verify. I have stopped using my friendster account and I have lost contact with these kambyo hunks.

I'm glad you liked the film.

Hundreds of Gay Men Killed

I join other gay men in the world in condemning the killings of gay men in Iraq. Here is the recent report from CNN:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Hundreds of gay men have been tortured and killed in Iraq in recent months, some by the nation's security forces, Human Rights Watch said Monday.

Interviews with doctors indicate hundreds of men had been killed, but the exact number was unclear because of the stigma associated with homosexuality in Iraq, the New York-based watchdog group said in its report.

Wasted Manhood?

Outrage Magazine's Kiki Tan writes about the sad situation of his gay friend. Reading about this story reminds me why I am very angry at how Filipino society treat us, gay men:

Greg, a friend, the only gay guy of seven brothers, was once considered the source of shame of his family. “Sayang ka, kalalaki mong tao babakla-bakla ka!” was what he was told when he was kicked out of their home. When his father had an accident that forced him to retire, his mother was forced to accept labada just to make ends meet. It was also at this time that three of the brothers married their pregnant girlfriends, though continued living off their mother’s measly income, and the others chose not to continue schooling. This was when they approached Greg, now running a beauty parlor, to help them out – something he willingly did. Interestingly, and annoyingly, though he is now the family’s breadwinner (even of the married brothers and their kids), for his family he is still “sayang”, though this time they often add that with “May silbi naman siya kahit bakla lang siya.” Such irony.

Gay Ad Banned

An ad for a skin whitening product about a gay man was asked to be taken down by a church group. The ad features gay DJ Mojo Jojo and declares how proud he is for his gay lifestyle.

A group has filed an online petition asking those who respect gay rights and do not think that the ad is immoral to sign their names on the petition so that the billboard could be restored to its rightful place.

The petition says:

The advocacies of gay and lesbian communities in the Philippines have always been about freedom from any form bigotry and discrimination. The fight has been taken to several arenas – media, legal, political, medical, and even religious.

Last week, a billboard that featured Mojo Jojo endorsing the GlutaMAX product lines, became a cause of celebration not only among the gay communities but to all those who value freedom and equality in this country. The tagline, “I Wake Up Whiter and Gay Each Day” is a proud declaration of DJ Mojo Jojo, the first openly gay DJ in the airwaves, not only about his skincare but about his lifestyle choices as well.

Last night, August 18, 2009, the billboard was taken down. We heard rumors that the site owner gave in to the pressure from influential church groups who said that the billboard promotes a sinful life and is against the cultural and moral sensibilities of the general public.

We beg to disagree. We take offense in the insinuation that a simple declaration of one’s chosen skincare and lifestyle destroys the moral fabric of our society. We strongly demand that the billboard be re-installed, if bigger and in a better location ASAP.

Uncut?

hello lex,

i'm kenneth, tanong ko lang, where can i buy the uncut version of sagwan? nakabili ako kanina sa quiapo, pero cut version yung nabili ko.
thanks and have a good day.

ken

------------------

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the message. Unfortunately, uncut versions of films are not commercially available. Unless if the film has a different international version, then most probably you can purchase that version from the country it has been released in (just like Serbis).

Also, I have lost my personal uncut version of Sagwan. Too bad.

Missing Manila's Gay Life

Hi, Lex,

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, I have just seen your site when looking to see how the Manila scene is now that I've left.

I thought it is very interesting and much easier to read than many others in Tagalog (which I never mastered!).

Good luck with your site and good health to you. May you live long and prosper!

Love,

Nicholas

Hi Nicholas,

Thank you for the message. May you also live longer and prosper so we could live our gay lives to the fullest.

Love,

Bakla 101

Here's an empowering article about being gay from the country's only gayzine "Outrage Mag":

The jeepney was almost full – too full, in fact that although the barker continued calling for more passengers to board, there was hardly any space left to move inside, much more to sit on. The only spaces left were the tight (though still distinguishable) space beside a malodorous sweaty man seated beside me, and the vacant space across us beside a fully made-up transgender who kept flicking his make-up kit open to check if his make-up was on place, and his friends who, although not cross-dressing, kept on throwing sideway glances to the guys stuffed in the rusty vehicle.

Just as the waiting was getting intolerable, boisterous voices were heard from the street, immediately followed by three guys boarding the jeepney, swearing their way inside as they located places to sit on. Their loud voices ceased when they saw the cross-dresser they may have to sit beside of, though this was immediately followed by snickers as they started to gamely push each other to avail of the empty space at my side of the vehicle. In the end, one of them ended up sitting beside the tranny, while the other two forcefully made themselves comfy beside the malodorous man, who, to my horror, got pushed against me.

“Putang bading!” one of them drunkenly slurred under his breath, first to his friend beside him who nodded his agreement with a smirk, and then to me as he acknowledged me with a nod and drawled “Pare.” Then both of them laughed and started teasing their friend who was seated across them, warning him of the slight the “faggot” beside him may do him. I was forced to join the laughter, not so much because I found the joke they shared funny, but because the overall situation was – considering their bloated tummies, flaring nostrils reddened by their alcoholic intake, and muddied appearances, I couldn’t imagine anyone who would want to put sexual advances to any of the three of them, and that’s irrespective of gender.

“Alam mo naman ang bakla, walang pinapatawad!” the other guy added, this time loud enough for everyone to hear, before they again broke to another drunken laugh.

“Bakla po ako,” I said, not able to hold my tongue, immediately meeting stares of incredulity and sudden silence.

The Kept Hunk

Here is a juicy blind item. One of the hunky stars of our previous films is now the kept hunk of one of the more famous soap opera directors from ABS-CBN.

Who is this hunk?

a. Harry Laurel
b. Johnron Tanada
c. Josh Ivan Morales
d. Gabz del Rosarion
e. Justin de Leon

Who is this hunk? I am not saying!

By the way, Thank you for supporting "Little Boy/ Big Boy". It has now rivaled the box office sales of "Ang Lalake sa Parola".

Lessons from "Little Boy/ Big Boy"

Screenshot from the orgy scene of "Little Boy/ Big Boy"

A writer from Manila Bulletin, Jojo P. Panaligan writes about some funny yet practical lessons he learned after watching "Little Boy/ Big Boy":

“Little Boy/Big Boy” imparts lessons which straight people should also heed:

1) Always lock the bedroom door if you’re in there with your spouse and there’s a child prone to barge in at the most, shall we say, inopportune time. It will save all of you from potential embarrassment and maybe even therapy for the child.

2) Don’t hold hands in public even if you’re a couple. It will raise eyebrows and set tongues wagging. Remember that this is the Philippines - and you are not Paris Hilton. If you’re a gay couple, maybe one of you may dress up (and even look?) like Paris but that’s beside the point.

3) Stock up on hotdogs (as in the cold cuts) at all times. It will come in handy one day. Hotdogs… handy… what?!?

4) If you don’t want the messages in your cellphone read by others, don’t leave it lying around. And if someone finds an incriminating message there, tell him in a hurt voice, ‘You don’t trust me.’ But should he, given the discovery? Okay, don’t text na lang.

5) Don’t position your computer with the monitor facing the door through which people enter. If caught visiting a site that you shouldn’t have, say the site just popped up and thereafter the computer hanged up.

6) When you’re already committed to someone, don’t be flirty with people of the opposite sex (or in the case of this film’s lead character, of the same sex) even if doing so means nothing to you. It’s called emotional infidelity.

7) When heartbroken, move on but don’t burn bridges. You might want to go back later.

8) If you’re a single mom of an underage kid, try not to go “eyeballing” with chat mates that will take you away for days. Children are not products that can be “endorsed” to friends just like that.

9) Practice safe sex. No, no one got AIDS or STD in the story but the advice is warranted.

10) Don’t judge a movie by its poster or trailer.

As Mario Says

Mario Bautista is the film critic who wrote against the exhibition of uncut gay films in UP. And after releasing his article, the MTRCB has put a stop on all gay film at the UP Cine Adarna.

And we were all surprised that the same critic actually wrote favorably about "Little Boy/ Big Boy". Here is what he wrote in his column in Malaya and People's Journal:

"WE'VE seen a lot of gay themed films about teen boys and their first loves ("Maximo Oliveros", "Dose")oppressed masseurs ("Masahista", "Heavenly Touch"), etc. but "Little Boy, Big Boy" is very different from past gay flicks, even from the previous films of its director, Jay Altarejos, known for such pink films as "Lalaki sa Parola", "Antonio" and "Kambyo"..."

"The movie is different from most gay flicks as it changes the usual portrayal of gays on screen as swishy faggots. The gay men here are both straight acting, the kind who are buff and called macho gays. Paolo Rivero is the busiest actor today in gay flicks. His performance here is better than in any of his past ones like "Daybreak" and "Heavenly Touch" (where he's an out and out gay). He's complimented by Douglas Robinson as the more sensitive Tim with his very expressive pair of eyes, even if his Visayan accent often gets on the way of his delivering a more effective portrayal. Gay viewers won't be disappointed as they're featured in two hot love scenes."

"But the most splendid performance actually comes from Renz Valerio as the little boy who really looks so pure and innocent, a primary requirement of the role that he superbly fulfills, despite the fact that he has a slutty mom who flirts from one boyfriend to another. He's a natural in all his scenes. Sophia Baars, Ruffa Gutierrez's precocious daughter in "Desperadas 1 and 2", also does well as Jill."

"Little Boy, Big Boy" is now showing in Robinsons Galleria, Ermita, Novaliches, Bacolod, Iloilo and Cinema, Cebu.

Stop Watching "Gay Indies"

A PLU's Experience

Here's another "Big Boy" experience from blogger James, author of "The Crazy Life of TL"

"I like the honesty of the story. It teaches you that homosexuality is not a lie. It is not something that you should hide, that you should not be ashamed of. It is something to be told, to anyone, especially to the innocent ones. I like how Paolo explained this to the kid. Not controversial and not vulgar. How lovely it was to see how easy for a little boy to accept the gay truth compare to adults nowadays. How I imagine a world so easy for PLUs when acceptance is just like that.

...That is what I like in the movie. It captures you. It makes you think. It makes you realize things. It allows you to participate emotionally and mentally. It gives you a big screen of your own lines, and somehow, a scene of your own life."
