Stop Watching "Gay Indies"

Writer ng isang gay indie, “Little Boy/ Big Boy”

I agree. FIlms like the ones you collaborate with Jay Altajeros are really not mere means to see the male organ. They are windows to the thoughts and lives of gay man like us. Not just having a voice but a mirror to parts of our lives that lead us to feel we are not alone to the feelings and situations we face. Again, thank you for the ticket. And thank you for your work. :D

Hi Lex,

Thank you for this particular topic/item on your blog.

I just want to sort of make an addendum to my comments to an earlier entry you had on the negative comments elicited from some viewers by the movie sagwan and its director, whose name escapes my mind now (sorry).

You are correct with what you said. I bought a DVD of the movie just so I can see for myself what were all the noise created by that blowjob scene. It was already deleted as expected and I believe a lot more "daring" scenes had been deleted by the MTRCB.

Did it affect the cohesiveness of the entire movie? Did the viewer become disoriented with the removal of the scenes? I couldn't tell because I was not able to watch the movie when it was shown uncut.

My point here is that I may not have liked the story flow on how it was done. But as a gay themed movie, I understood what it's objective was and why it had to be presented as such. I appreciated the efforts of the producer and the director by having a gay themed movie even if there were no more frontal scenes of the male leads.

In other words, yes, directors and movie writers can create gay themed movies sans the so called "required frontal scenes" and still make the movie rise above the expectations of the gay moviegoers. And yes, you are correct. What is the use of promoting and working for the advancement of the pink films if its very patrons are there to be lured according to their prurient intentions only.

Again, thank you for this space.

Regards.

wagi ang entry na ito.. punto por punto... we can't deny the fact that many people watch movies for visual delight (movies in general), but the essence should be the main reason why we appreciate and watch films.
I have watched your lihim ni antonio and i was totally moved by the scenarios... ang sarap mag focus group discussion after that... going back, we should all transcend our level of appreciation... di s'ya madalian na mangyayari but i am hopeful, we will get to that point.

I find this post ironic coming from the writer of "Ang lalake sa Parola" and "Lihim ni Antonio". The former of which basically started the "required full frontal shots" trend (granted, you may not have any call on that since you are the writer and not the director).

I find it distasteful, that after enjoying the success of both films, which one cannot deny that in some capacity the full monty of some of it's actors contributed to its success (I would wager, in no small way). That one would back pedal, and say, no no no, don't watch gay indies movies if you are just into penises.

I find it arrogant, to try and invalidate a person's own personal reason for watching a film. Be it emotional, intellectual, spiritual or carnal, all these reasons are valid.

I also find it sad that a person such as yourself would look to MTRCB and put such high value on what, to them, "normal" should be. As a wise person told me once, the biggest insult one can give me is to tell me how average and normal I am. Aren't we all about celebrating diversity?

I understand the sentiment of the post, but it rang hollow coming from you. Truly I am saddened by this.

something very significant collectively occurs when "gay" movies can be regularly commercially successful without the peppering of pornographic shots. very significant from a socio-cultural point of view.

i salute tony for his comments.

lex ... what gives? i've always thought you to be a man of reason. why play naive all of a sudden?

i watched parola and antonio for the nudity and explicit scenes. crucify me! but please, wipe that hypocritical smirk from your face first! i might throw up!

ganito lang yan lex. you want appreciation for gay-themed indies solely on quality and artistic merits? cge, produce a maximo olivares. don't give me some half-baked movie and then pompously act as if your producers never used nudity as a come-on to your films.

nagkalat sa mga blogs ang mga pics ng sex scenes nina paolo and robinson. you don't want us to watch the film for the nudity and sex scenes? then DON'T sell it as a sex movie.

ganun lang kasimple. i am hugely disappointed. i USED to be a fan.

Hi lex, you know what I love watching movies kahit ano ano lan na makita ko sa internet, kahit anong genre or countries galing as long as merong lessons na iniimpart ang movie. With gay indie movies, you point it right. Ang galing. I already watched ang lihim ni Antonio and it was so fantastic!
